Outreach and public engagement
I have been involved with a wide range of outreach and public engagement activities, from working science demonstrations at festivals such as the "National Eisteddfod of Wales" and the "Tafwyl" Welsh language festival, volunteering for school initiatives such as Universe in the Classroom, and providing comment and expert explanation for a variety of astronomical topics on national BBC radio and televison.
I'm a fluent, first-language Welsh speaker, and am passionate about communicating science through the medium of Welsh. I've taken part in Welsh TV productions such as the ''Dibendraw'' documentary (meaning ''Infinite'', pictured) on radio astronomy, and was most recently one of the experts on the ''Gwylio ser y nos'' (meaning ''Watching the stars'') stargazing show on S4C, the first program of its kind delivered through the medium of Welsh on national TV. In May 2020, I gave the first Welsh language planetarium show suitable for children in collaboration with the Royal Observatory Greenwich. The show, suitable for families, took viewers on a tour of the solar system, and allowed audience interatction with our destination voted for by audience poll. In August 2020, I presented four educational videos on the solar system for the online "National Eisteddfod of Wales", based on the content of my planetarium show, all through the medium of Welsh. I described the constellations and the Earth's place in the solar system, Mars, Jupiter, and our Galaxy, and all four videos are are available to watch on YouTube.
My work was picked up as a press release published online in WIRED magazine, and following this I appeared as a full page feature in the BBC Sky at Night Magazine.
